Landscape Sculpture

Student will learn history of traditional quilling art. Student will learn how to use paper to construct a three dimensional form incoperating patterns and color. Student will practice creative ways of using paper as a medium. After the two scaffolding lesson, student should understand the basic techniques of quilling and creat a paper sculpture independently focusing on the form, patterns and composition. To teach students the idea and concept of abstract art and sculpture.

9th Grade Lesson

Medium: Paper

The teacher introduces quilling art to the students and discusses the works of four different paper artists. The teacher will engage in a conversation about ‘High Art’ and ‘Low Art.’

STEP 1: Introduction

The teacher introduces the basic quilling technique, a variety of papers and examples of using paper creatively. Students continue create 6 creative designs using paper.

STEP 2: Practice

Student will chose one part of their landscape poster to practice and experiment with the materials.

STEP 3: Sketch and Construct

Students will sketch the outline of the landscape and then start building.

STEP 4: In Progress Critique

Students will do a gallery walk, look at everyone’s work, and provide constructive feedback.
