Hooray the fish

Students will create colorful fish painting with an emphasis on aesthetic, pattern and color. These compositions will allow students to experiment with watercolors techniques and create images that from imagination. Students will read the story Horray for fish by Lucy Cousins and The Rainbow Fish from Marcus Pfister.

STEP 1: Reading

The teacher will read the book ‘Hooray for Fish!’ and engage in a conversation about patterns in fish.

STEP 2: Drawing

Students use crayons to draw the world under the sea.

STEP 3: Demonstration

The teacher demonstrates how to use watercolor over crayon.

STEP 4: Painting

Students will use watercolor paint over crayon.
